Ancient Thai Ban Chiang Bi-Chrome Stemmed Vessel

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang culture, ca. 300 BCE. A hand-built pottery cup of a broadly carinated form resting atop a narrow stem and a flared foot. The rim, body, and foot are decorated with linear and geometric motifs using orange-red slip atop the cream-hued ground, and the cup base and stem are unadorned. Size: 6.4" W x 7.6" H (16.3 cm x 19.3 cm)

Provenance: private J.H. collection, Beaverton, Oregon, USA, acquired in December 2008; ex-Artemis Gallery; ex-private collection, acquired at West Coast Auction Company

Condition Report: Repaired from multiple large pieces, with light restoration to area between cup and stem, and resurfacing and light overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and nicks to rim, body, stem, and foot, with fading to original pigmentation, and some encrustations. Nice traces of original pigment throughout.
