Ancient Vietnamese Dong Son Bronze Axe Head

Ancient Southeast Asia, Vietnam, Dong Son culture, ca. late 1st millennium BCE. A cast-bronze axe head with a hollow construction, carinated top and bottom peripheries, and flat faces which taper to a sharpened blade edge. The obverse face boasts a raised panel of abstract geometric motifs near the bottom and underneath a small attachment hole. A pretty pale green patina coats the surface. Size: 1.95" W x 3.05" H (5 cm x 7.7 cm); 4.4" H (11.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition Report: Losses to back half of axe head as shown. Small chips along lower peripheries and blade edge, with softening to raised geometric motifs, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits and patina throughout. Small repair on lower back.
