Ancient roman Glass Very rare Eggplant-colored glass bottle - 2nd / 6th C.

DATE-SHAPED GLASS BOTTLE Superb eggplant-coloured glass unguentarium made from a mould of ancient Rome with extremely fine decoration in relief, with an oval-shaped body and a short collar leading to a rounded and hollowed out edge. The body of the container has the shape of a ripe date, with wrinkles and ridges imitating the uneven surface of the fruit. Dates were widely used in many Mediterranean regions, often used to sweeten food and wine, but were also a symbolic gift offered at New Year's Eve. A pretty rainbow-coloured iridescence covers the surface of the object. Dimensions: height 6. 2 cm, diameter 2. 4 cm, completely intact. Provenance: B. K. L.
