Uncredited CDV featuring a standing view of a Union soldier posed with his sword in front of a painted Civil War camp scene, with inked inscription on verso identifying the subject as, "Alvin R. Coffin / Son of James / Died was buried at Andersonville in time of the war."
A shoemaker by trade, Coffin enlisted at the age of 27 as a private in January 1864 and mustered into Co. M of the 2nd Massachusetts Cavalry. He was taken prisoner on February 22, 1864 at Dranesville, VA, and died a POW on August 11, 1864 at Andersonville, GA. He was buried at Andersonville National Cemetery (Grave #5315).
Condition Report: Few small pin pricks along top edge of print. Even toning to print and mount. Bottom edge of mount may have been trimmed.
