14-page autograph manuscript by André Chaumeix, it is a school work entitled ["Letter from a citizen of Paris to J. Jacques Rousseau"] , undated. With handwritten annotations in the margin from one of his teachers.
"I read with the keenest interest, Sir, your letter on shows. However, if I take the liberty of writing to you today, it is not only to express admiration, which I declare to you very strong and very sincere. I must also admit to you that I do not share all your ideas and that you seem to me too severe for the theater. Perhaps you will find me very daring to respond to you and to take charge here of the defense of theater; and in truth, I have little authority to pronounce myself with certainty on such subjects: are you not better able to judge than me? [. . .] "
