\Artist: André HARDY (1887-1986)
Technique: Huile sur carton\Signature: Hand signed\Dimensions: 44_52_4_cm
André HARDY (1887-1986) : "Les lavandières près de la chaumière", oil on canvas, signed on the bottom left in Beautifully done, this 1930s painting depicts two Norman women washing and darning clothes at the washhouse near a thatched cottage. André Hardy's artistic production is considerable: oil paintings, generally small, drawings, gouaches, engravings and some sculptures. His works were not intended for sale: Hardy painted for pleasure. He had very few exhibitions outside the Salon des Artistes français. All his works are marked by a deep attachment to this Norman Bocage region. Hardy's painting does not belong to any school, but it is characterised by a deep attraction to the landscape, to the terroir, which is one of the most positive aspects of painting in France from the Barbizon School to the present day. This great artistic movement was represented in Normandy by several artists from whom Hardy drew inspiration: Lagrand (1853-1897) whose works Hardy could contemplate in Condé, Jules Rame (1855-1927) fascinated like him by the multiple facets of a piece of rural landscape in each different season. In Clécy, Hardy made friends with Paul-Émile Pissarro and with Georges Jules Moteley. He had an excellent relationship with Charles Léandre. Hardy's essential merit is the sharpness of his eye and the quality of his drawing and colour. A modern frame is offered with this beautiful painting. Total size: 44 x 52 cm for the painting alone: 26. 5 x 34. 5 cm.
