André LHOTE (1885-1962) ‘Portrait d'Anne’ Superb pastel of large dimensions (64 x 48 cm) representing a portrait of a young woman, which could be, according to my research, the model Anne FONJALLAZ, which André LHOTE represented several times in the 1920s-1930s. A major painter of the 20th century, André LHOTE's works are present in the greatest museums around the world: Tate Britain London, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Museum of Modern Art San Francisco, National Museum of Modern Art, Paris. . . We thank Mrs. Dominique BERMANN MARTIN, André LHOTE's beneficiary and specialist in his work, for kindly confirming the recording of the work in the LHOTE archives under the title "Portrait of Anne", dated 1931. Pastel on paper. 64 x 48 cm (with frame, many small holes to report, about 84 x 68 cm) Signed ‘A. LHOTE’ on the top right. On the back, a pencil annotation on the bottom right "No. 32" as well as a sketch in pencil. The paper has a watermark "MBM (France) " Pastel in very good overall condition, protected by a glass Pictures shot in natural light Provenance: 10-12-1992, auction house, The Netherlands, titled "A portrait of Anna" 26-03-2003, auction house, France, titled "Portrait de femme" Authenticity guaranteed - Sold with our gallery invoice.
