[ translate ]

\Artist: André van der Vossen
Technique: Gouache\Signature: Hand signed
Andre van der Vossen (1893-1963) size = gouache One of the earliest examples of Art Informal in the Netherlands was Andre van der Vossen. Impressed by the exhibitions of Vasily Kandinsky and Paul Klee, held at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam in 1947 and 1948 respectively, Van der Vossen started experimenting with various abstract styles, starting with French-like all over composition of small, rhythmic brushstrokes in earth tones. Fields of subdued colours are shot through strokes in other dull hues. In the end, he arrived at a more moderate lyrical abstraction with colour patches scattered on white ground and connected by linear patterns. In all these works, an expressive rhythm emanates from the composition giving it a certain indefinable feel.
