Andrea Del Sarto (1486-1530) (After) - Ritratto di giovane

[ translate ]

Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed
This late 19th century oil on canvas ( painted by a very fine hand) after the original painting by Italian painter Andrea Del Sarto ( Circa 1518) of a portrait of a young man was acquired from a collector in Scotland. The painting had not been taken from it's frame and arrived with us behind glass. There is a faded Newton and Winsor stamp on the canvas verson; which indicates it is most likely painted by a British artist; however they did occasionally export canvas and it could be Northern European / continental. The painting was delivered to us by private courier due to the potential breakage and damage that could have resulted to the painting. As a result the painting is in a very good condition (as good it could possibly be given it's relative antiquity) and requires absolutely no restoration . We will fit new fitments so that it will be ready to hang on the wall. We have the original glass here, but have removed it to enhance the painting as before it was highly reflective . This detracted from what is such a fine painting. We can ship the glass; but it would have to be wrapped separately ( should the buyer prefer to have the original glass) but we would advise against this as the glass is over 100 years old and extremely brittle and prone therefore the breaking. The frame appears to be coeval to the painting and has the suppliers name ( Joseph Sawers & Son of Paisley) label on the verso which suggest that the painting has until now probably always remained in Scotland. The frame is offered as a gift and is also in excellent condition ( see photos) . We insure shipping and will offer a certificate of authenticity with the painting.
