Andrea Radai - Mirror, Painting - Series 'Mirror mirror, on the wall'
Mirror mirror on the wall 15 2021 The objects in the series ‘Mirror mirror, on the wall’ behold two sides. On one side an ordinary mirror and on the other side a painting by Andrea Radai. In the paintings she zooms in beyond the individual. Faces are cut off from the frame, the personality is lost. What remains are details that now speak for themselves, whereby it is clothes, gesture and posture that signify emotion. Persons are reduced to no more than some vulnerable features. The spectators might as well suddenly catch a glimpse of themselves present in the mirror. They are as much voyeurs as 'objects'. Andrea Rádai works with themes, which are often uncomfortable. Images that attract the eye, and at the same time the gaze turns away. Tension, desire, shame. The psychology of it and the associated anxiety. Anxiety associated with our existential fears and desires; politically, sexually and socially.
