Andrew Wyeth Signed 1963 "Time Magazine" Cover Story, Ready For Display - JSA
Signed magazine cover
The front cover of the December 27, 1963 issue of "Time Magazine" (Volume 82, Number 26), signed by the subject of the cover story, American artist Andrew Wyeth (1917-2009), as "Andrew Wyeth" outside of the margin at lower right. N.d., n.p. The signed magazine cover is matted in a speckled gray mat. Isolated smearing to the artist's last name, but still legible. Expected wear including light scattered wrinkles. The magazine cover still bears its original typed recipient's address label at lower left, just above a JSA sticker. The mat is crisp with intact corners. The sight size of the magazine cover is 7.625" x 11.125" while the overall mat size is 11" x 14" x .25".
The "Time" cover story, "Andrew Wyeth's World," appeared in the magazine's Art & Entertainment section. In it, the article described one of Wyeth's most recent artistic success, "Christina's World," and commented on the growing popularity of this relatively young artist (he was 46 at the time of publication.) In part: "[Wyeth] paints landscapes and houses, the outside and inside of the world where man lives. Across these carefully recorded scenes, he shows the track, the flicker, the expression of life, even if the living object has long since departed—the print of a heron on the sand, the feeling that a crow flew by, the sea shells lined up in an empty room on a woman's whim. Millions are touched by these intimations, faint but intense; they are touched in their sense of mortality, and they count Andrew Wyeth an incomparable painter…"
