Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was an American artist, filmmaker, and producer who played a significant role in the Pop Art movement of the 1960s. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Warhol studied art and design at Carnegie Mellon University before moving to New York City in 1949. Warhol began his career as a commercial artist and illustrator before transitioning into fine art. He gained fame in the 1960s for his paintings of everyday objects such as Campbell's Soup cans and Coca-Cola bottles, which he reproduced using silk-screening techniques. Warhol's work often incorporated themes of consumerism, celebrity culture, and mass media.
