Angelo Dall'Oca Bianca was born in Verona on 31 March 1858 into a modest family, originally from Zevio in Veneto.
He began working as an apprentice painter and, at the same time, attended summer school, receiving his first artistic training from Salesio Pegrassi and his son.
In 1873 he enrolled at the Cignaroli Academy, then directed by Napoleone Nani.
Here, in 1878, he obtained two prizes for the nude and for the historical composition.
He also received the commission for the portrait of Umberto I based on some official photographs.
Three years later he made his debut at the Exhibition of the Society of Fine Arts in Florence with the painting Caresses and Admonitions and a portrait; since then he has regularly exhibited at official exhibitions, obtaining the favor of Italian and foreign collectors.
His appreciation for the art of Francesco Paolo Michetti and Giacomo Favretto is probably determined by both of them's use of photography to fix the compositions to be transferred to the canvas.
As time passed, he achieved greater success with the public, attracting the attention of art dealers, including the brothers Alberto and Vittore Grubicy De Dragon.
In fact, they add the young Angelo among the contemporary art artists - Giovanni Segantini, Emilio Longoni and Achille Tominetti - whose works they take care of for sale.
He works between Venice and Rome where he meets people such as Giosuè Carducci and Gabriele D'Annunzio.
He was presented to Queen Margherita of Savoy who, on the occasion of the National Exhibition in Turin in 1884, purchased two paintings from him, commissioning the same number the following year.
In 1886 at the Milan Exposition he received the prestigious Principe Umberto prize with the painting Ave Maria gratia plena (Milan, Gallery of Modern Art) .
He returned definitively to Verona in 1888, continuing to exhibit at the major national and international exhibitions.
In 1891 he was in Munich, in 1893 he received the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Antwerp, in 1894 he was in Berlin and in 1896 in Barcelona, obtaining the gold medal for the painting Falling Leaves.
At the beginning of 1900 he held a solo exhibition in Budapest with 56 works, ensuring enormous critical and public success for his cheerful Veronese views.
In 1908, demonstrating his adherence to the new artistic currents of Symbolism and Divisionism, he presented in Verona the most challenging work of the last decade, Gli amori delle anime.
The work is located in Verona in the Gallery of Modern Art.
At the end of the 1930s, the Dall'Oca village was built, built for the poor of the hometown.
Angelo Dall'Oca Bianca died on 18 May 1942, still bequeathing his paintings to the city of Verona.
