Large Angelo Minghetti (1822-1885) ceramic bust of Romeo, probably the Romeo from Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. Signed on the inside with the initials of AM, for Angelo Minghetti, Bologna Italia. Signed on the back with capital M. Made around 1870. Width 45 cm, height 43 cm. Angelo Minghetti (1822-1885) was an Italian ceramist and painter of majolica pieces. He opened a studio in Bologna in 1858. His majolica pieces were inspired by the Neo-Renaissance revival of the period. Condition: Good, on one corner of the backside of the base a minute chip/glaze loss, commensurate with age. The nose had a small area of glaze loss which has been restored.
