Seventeenth-century German manuscript prayerbook. 29 September 1604

289 leaves, 4to (18 x 14cm), manuscript on paper in red and black ink in a gothic hand, with 44 miniature colour illustrations pasted in, two entirely by hand on vellum panels with gold leaf, the majority engraved illustrations of biblical scenes by at least three different engravers, initialled "CK", "TM" [Tobias Manaser] and "DC", all with fine contemporary hand-colour, modern pencil foliation, contemporary German stamped calf over wooden boards (probably by Caspar Genseler, EBDB w007729, active in Wittenberg, late sixteenth century), central panel stamps of the Crucifixion and Resurrection, paper manuscript lettering-piece pasted to head of spine, two clasps, joints cracking at head and foot, lacking one strap
The colophon states that the manuscript was finished on the Feast of St Michael in the year 1604 by Sister Anna Kellerin.
