Anna PIÓREK (b. 1967), Who Sees What, 2025
acrylic on canvas, 60 x 80 cm, signed on the back
Anna Piórek was born in Wałbrzych and lives in Olsztyn; she is an independent artist who has been associated with Warmia and Masuria for many years. Her interest in art, particularly painting, became apparent as early as her teenage years. She has been painting since the mid-1980s, but has devoted herself entirely to painting since the 1990s. She primarily practices easel painting using oil and acrylic techniques, and is not afraid to experiment with other media to achieve results that satisfy her. The central themes of her paintings are landscapes, architecture, and abstraction. She draws inspiration for her work from her many travels, her close connection with nature, and her fascination with Impressionist painting. The interplay of light, color, and paint texture plays a very important role for the artist. Anna Piórek’s work is characterized by expressiveness, evident in the combination of vivid patches of color that give the impression of a colorful mosaic. All of this gives her paintings the impression of being drawn from the imagination or dreamlike visions. The artist has developed her own way of depicting the world, one that does not conform to the established canons of painting; she does not use convergent perspective or classical chiaroscuro, but rather presents her own view of the world, rejecting existing norms. For over thirty years, Anna Piórek has presented her paintings in more than one hundred solo and group exhibitions, including in Olsztyn, Ostróda, Warsaw, Rzeszów, Zamość, Sieradz, and Grudziądz; Her works are held in private collections both in Poland and abroad: in Kraków, Warsaw, Gdańsk, Gdynia, Poznań, Wałbrzych, Ness, Aachen, Düsseldorf, Paris, San Sebastián, Chicago, Barcelona, Tokyo, and many other cities. The artist is a member of the Ars et Liber Association in Ostróda, the Warmia and Mazury Artists’ Union, and the Artistic Group at the Command Club of the 16th Mechanized Division in Olsztyn; she is a student at the Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź
