Fragment (quire) of 8 leaves from an incunabula edition of the Bible, printed in Venice by Simon Bevilaqua, on November 22, 1494.

4° format, 55 lines, printed in 2 columns. Small gothic font. Hand classified in red, 15 hand-painted initials of 3 lines high, 3 of 6 lines high. Text fragment from Mark and Luke, incl. index on Luke.

One of the first Latin Bibles to be printed in a smaller format. The printer Simone Gabi started printing in Vicenza in 1487 under the name Bevilaqua. He later moved to Venice and worked as a printer there until 1506. He then spent some time as an itinerant printer before setting up a shop in Lyon in 1515.

This edition closely follows the model introduced in 1492 by Girolamo Paganino (ISTC ib00594000) and which includes for the first time the 'Tabula alphabetica historiarum Bibliae', written in 1489 by the Franciscan Gabriel Bruno.
