Anonima Castelli - Giancarlo Piretti - Folding chair - Plia folding chairs (2x) - Chrome plating, Plastic, White chassis with transparent plexiglass

[ translate ]

These two folding chairs were designed by Giancarlo Piretti for Castelli Italy, model Plia.

The design dates from 1967 and was first introduced at the Fiera del Mobile in Milan. A special feature of the folding chair is the three-disc hinge, which was very innovative at the time. The seat and backrest are made of transparent plexiglass and the chair has a chrome frame in this version with a white plastic coating.

Giancarlo Piretti was chief designer and head of development at Anonima Castelli. Piretti designed the successful Plia folding chair in 1969.

Piretti redefines the folding chair with his invention of the 3-disc hinge. This invention is seen by many as a stroke of genius. This combination of chromed metal and semi-transparent plastic has made this chair a true cult object.

This folding chair is also in the design department of the MOMA in New York.
The Plia folding chair design won, among other things, the German Gute Form prize in 1973.

The 2 chairs are 2nd hand but cleaned, polished and (chrome) equipped with plastic *transparent* bubbles on the underside to protect the chassis.
