Anonimo - Santa Teresa d’Avila (XVII sec.)
Oil on canvas, c. 1650, ‘Santa Teresa d’Avila’. Size. 100x75 cm In very good condition, the painting was recently restored by an experienced restorer from Florence (please see sheet) . The stretcher was entirely rebuilt in its structure. It is a very refined and delicate representation of Saint Teresa of Avila, probably made around the mid-17th century. It shows the iconographic features of the saint: the dove (descent of the Holy Spirit) , the adoration of the cross decorated with white lilies, the Sacred Heart (VERBUM CARO FACTUM EST) , the crown of thorns, the book that recalls the literary production and Teresa’s teachings. Her face is portrayed with a special grace and kindness, and colours are soft and warm.
