Technique: Watercolor over Chalk on Paper, mounted on Cardboard

Watermark: Wappen von Amsterdam, vgl. Heawood Nr. 370 (1700); Kettenlinien ca. 23-25 mm (horizontal)

Provenance: Unbekannte Sammlung "OV"; Erworben bei Fach, Frankfurt/Main, 1968

Inscription: inscribed in pencil on old backing board lower right: "...."; below: "..."; inscribed in pen/pencil on verso of underlay cardboard: "A. Cuyp, le châteu de Pourmerend. S. Catalogue of the Netherl. Handzeichnungen im Louvre, von Fritz (Lugt No., No. 220, p. 30 the same moated castle from the other side, black chalk, pen in bister, light watercolour in grey a. yellow", collection stamp "OV" in rectangle (not in Lugt).

Date: c. 1700

Description: Copy, probably from the 18th century, after a watercolour attributed to Aelbert Cuyp in Brussels. The view of the castle from a different perspective mentioned in the note on the verso is in the Louvre in Paris.
