An extremely rare and important gilt brass folding knife fitted with a single-handed watch Dimensions 103 / 190 mm, circa 1690, Weight 72 g, Origin Deutschland Case: Brass, gilt, lavishly engraved, polished iron blade. Dial: Silver champlevé. Movm.: Full plate movement, chain/fusee, four-wheel train, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance. Both sides of the handle are decorated with an identical pattern of engraved acanthus tendrils on a shaded ground and a Chevron pattern at the edge. A watch with a hinged glass dome sits approx. in the middle of the handle. The silver dial has radial Roman Champlevé numerals, an inner quarter hour ring and an exquisitely engraved- flower in the centre, as well as a single blued steel "Poker & Beetle" hand. Weapons featuring mechanical watches are rare occurrences, particularly when dating from the 16th or 17th century. The armoury that is part of the Dresden collection has a sword with an integrated watch in the pommel dating from 1610 as well as two powder bottles dating from 1610 and 1620 from Augsburg, which both feature integrated watches. Case: very good, slightly worn, slightly rubbed. Dial: very good. Movm.: very good, capable of running, cleaning recommended.
