Anselm Glück is an Austrian writer, painter and graphic artist who has lived in Vienna since 1978. After training as a chemist, he attended lectures in Sinology and ethnology in Vienna and studied commercial art for four semesters at the Academy of Fine Arts in Linz. Since the 1970s, he has been engaged in experimental literature, which he sometimes combines with his own illustrations, and, in addition to prose, he also writes plays and opera libretti, as well as poetry performances. At the same time, he developed an independent style in the visual arts, whose poetic figurative and symbolic language is reminiscent of Jean Dubuffet and Art Brut. His work is situated within the broader context of Konrad Bayer, Oswald Wiener, Heimrad Bäcker, Adolf Frohner, Alfred Klinkan, Siegfried Anzinger, Alois Mosbacher, Hubert Schmalix, Herbert Brandl, Erwin Bohatsch, Gunter Damisch, Hubert Scheibl, Walter Vopava, Rudolf Goessl and Otto Zitko; terms such as the Vienna Group, avant-garde literature, wordplay, montage technique, poetic performances, dual talent, experimental literature, typography, childlike-naive figuration, symbolism, Neo-Expressionism and the Neue Wilde accurately describe his artistic context.
