Antebellum Military Knapsack c. 1854

Excellent antebellum leather military knapsack identified by an affixed period tag to "George R. Hodgkins." There are various George Hodgkins who would later serve during the Civil War in the Union and Confederate armies, but the exact owner of this example is currently unknown. The front of the knapsack is marked "1854" with layered initials, likely denoting a militia unit.

Overall fine condition for its age, leather is firm but pliable.
