Antique 1889 Porcelain Plate, President George Washington, Knowles
Antique "President George Washington", large [10"] porcelain plate issued in April 1889 by Knowles, Taylor & Knowles Porcelain Manufacturing, East Liverpool, Ohio to commemorate the centennial of the inauguration of the first President of the United States. The plate has a matching porcelain mark used 1880s-1910s. Vintage plate hanger is included.
The plate is 10" [25.4cm] across, crackled glaze, the dark clearly visible long line on the back of the plate is not a crease - it is glaze smear. No chips, a few under-glaze stains on the back of the plate, very good condition.
The centennial of George Washington's swearing-in as first president of the United States on April 30, 1789 was broadly celebrated with numerous exhibitions, artworks, and souvenirs.The Knowles, Taylor & Knowles Porcelain Manufacturing Company, East Liverpool, Ohio, was founded in 1853, and went out of business in 1931.
