Antique 19C Wood Writing Slope Lap Desk Folding Box

An antique wood and leather personal secretary desk, featuring a rectangular form with intricate inlaid designs throughout. The desk opens on a hinge to reveal a leather-lined interior desk surface, providing access to a large interior storage compartment with dedicated spaces for documents, writing implements, wax, stamps, and other ephemera. Although the cover has a locking mechanism, unfortunately, the key is not available. Affixed to the top is an oval medallion with an incised dedication inscription that reads: "PRESENTED TO JAMES GARDENER BY HIS FATHER-IN-LAW H.C. 1880," adding a personal touch and historical significance to the piece.
