Maker: Bowler & Burdick

History of Maker: Bowler & Burdick, a jewelry distributor in Cleveland, Ohio, started assembling clocks in the late 19th century. The company imported movements from Germany, glass domes from France, and purchased pendulums from across the United States. In 1901 the company patented the “Anniversary†clock, which would become synonymous with 400-day torsion clocks. The “Anniversary†label was an important marketing tool for Bowler & Burdick, who suggested that these clocks be purchased to commemorate yearly events like wedding anniversaries or birthdays by winding the clock. They produced clocks with “Anniversary†on the dial or backplate until c.1907.
