Antique Apache Basket With Sunflower Design

[ translate ]

Offered here for your consideration is an antique Apache basket with sunflower design. A very tight and nicely woven example of Apache weaving that is highly sought after. The mellow light brown body of the basket provides a great back ground for the bold brown sunflower design. Get your bid in now to add this wonderful Apache basket to your collection! The Apache people were known as superior basket makers after learning new techniques from the Yavapai during the late 1800s which they quickly adopted and adapted. Apache baskets are striking with strong contrast in color and bold geometric or pictorial (less common) motif. Being on a three rod foundation makes the baskets tight, stiff and sturdy with no bend to them, and yields rounded well-defined coils that stand out. They use materials native to their region such as willow and devil's claw. These baskets are highly sought after and getting harder to find.
