Antique Art Nouveau Ceramic Vase, Irises, Japan 1920s

Antique hand painted ceramic Art Nouveau vase decorated with pink and yellow Iris flowers, moriage decorations and washout water-color style matte over-glazes, quite unusual. There is a small stamp "Japan" on the bottom.

The vase is wheel thrown, 1920s, c.13" [c.31cm] tall x 7" [c.18cm] the widest x 3.3/4" [c.9.7cm]; the Irises are painted under glaze; the glaze is craquelured; over-glaze moriage applications and additional over-glaze painting. The over-glaze painting surface has a few scratches; some age related wear, no chips, very good condition.

The regulation requiring to apply "Japan" instead of "Nippon" was introduced in 1922. Therefore, this vase perfectly matches into the original time of late Art Nouveau, 1922-1928.
