Each cabochon has been meticulously carved on the reverse and hand-painted, with a miniature painting floating beneath its rock-crystal quartz dome, creating a captivating illusion of three-dimensional depth. These examples are backed with mother-of-pearl, creating a lustrous background. The 18k gold brooch features a centrally located Essex crystal, completed with a traditional pinstem and catch. The stickpins, featuring a black dog with a red bandana and a tan dog with dark eyes and a twist along the pinstem, also test as 18k gold. The black dog stickpin tests as 14k gold, and the white dog tests as 14k gold with a diamond-set platinum bezel around the Essex crystal. All metal is confirmed by XRF analysis.
