Antique Chinese Cloisonné Crane circa 1915

A hands on work of cloisonné art by Chinese artisans that depicts a red crowned crane. The crane is an auspicious symbol of filial piety and long life.

A metal cast body of brass in the shape is of the red crowned crane. The brass body has been covered in a wire framework forming archaic designs and filled with glass enameling. The body and head show different colors of enameling finishing with the red crown on the head. The crane rests on four-toed feet that are brass with detailed scales and claws. The legs show the body metal of brass, which has darkened with oxidization. The body has a nice worn, smooth feel. It is definitely an old one.

There are no marks other than the numbers 1 and 7 on the undersides of the feet.

MEASUREMENTS

7” (17.8 cm) tall x 5” (12.7 cm) long x 1 ¾” (4.4 cm) wide. Weighs 8 oz (250 g)

CONDITION

There are no breaks, cracks, or chips. The enamels have pitting which is consistent with manufacturing during this time period.

A sculptural work of the Chinese artist that is a small work of art. It would make a great wedding gift because of the symbolism.
