Antique Continental Romanesque Style Solid Wood Table

29 ¼"H x 30 ½"W x 23 ½"D

Carved oak occasional table in the Romanesque Revival taste, the rectangular top with canted corners above a gadrooned edge and a frieze carved with scrolling acanthus, the corners mounted with carved grotesque masks and turned drop pendants above arcaded brackets. Raised on paired turned columns with carved foliate capitals, set on shaped trestle plinths carved with recumbent lion masks and joined by a carved platform stretcher. No maker's label or stamp visible.

Condition: Good. Overall surface wear and old finish, with scratches, nicks and rubbing to the top, edges and plinths consistent with use. Finish darkened with lighter rubbed areas to the frieze and column shafts. Scattered small losses to the carved detail. Joints appear sound.
