Antique German Doll 1880s in Civil War Era Dress in Glass Dome

Antique German doll (c.1880s-90s); dressed in the Civil War period dress (1860s). The doll's head, hands and legs are made of porcelain, the body is soft. The doll is complete including her antique underwear. The undergarments, petticoat, and Civil War era dress were created by Sylvia Dornhecker.

The doll comes from the collection of Sylvia Lee Rogers Dornhecker (1921-2017), an American antique doll collector. She had a collection of over 400 antique dolls. Mrs. Dornhecker designed several dresses for her dolls emphasizing the History of Fashion.

The doll stands 9.1/4" [23.5cm] tall. The black glaze of the doll's shoes shows some wear, otherwise very good condition The wire with the loop around doll's breast keeps her in standing position. The doll is under a glass dome on a wooden base. The base was made by Timberline Woodcrafters, Henderson, North Carolina [the original vintage [c.1950s-1960s] label is on the bottom of the wooden base.
