Antique Grover & Baker Sewing Machine & Stand

An antique Grover & Baker cast-iron hand-crank sewing machine set atop a custom wood stand featuring a unique semi-circular swing-out spool drawer; includes a historic provenance file containing a 1962 Norwegian newspaper article clipping and typed English translation documenting original owner Ivra Thorsø, who received the machine in 1890 and used it into her 90s. Made in Boston, Massachusetts, Grover & Baker machines were celebrated for introducing the two-thread double-lock chain stitch, featuring an ornate relief-molded base with eagle motifs, brass arm accents, and its original shuttle bobbin in an envelope. Condition shows age-appropriate finish wear, metal patina, surface oxidation, paint loss to the cast-iron base, and light wear to the wooden stand; mechanical operation is untested. Original newspaper article and translation included. H 28", W 18", D 12". Please see photos for condition. Note: Pickup/Transport required. Contacts available Post-Auction.
