This wakizashi is from a private collection and hasnÂ’t been available to the public in over 20 years. It would be difficult to find a finer wakizashi than this one. The blade is in perfect polish showing the superb work of Yoshimichi, who is the second son of shodai Osaka Tanba no Kami Yoshimichi. As stated, the polish on this wakizashi is outstanding. The blade itself is in very healthy condition without any flaws. The blade is thick, wide and has a weight and balance that makes it evident this was a true weapon of war. It has a beautiful gold foil habaki. All fittings are top end. The Tsuba (hand guard) is intricately carved with gold highlights. It is signed! The Tsuka (handle) has matching dragonflys in relief fuchi kashira. The menukis are a rare Samurai bow and arrow with gold highlights. The wrap is leather instead of silk more in the tradition of tachiÂ’s of old. The saya is stone finished with iron fittings. The saya also has an excellent high end kozuka (small knife) featuring Cranes in relief highlighted in gold. This sword is perfect in every way. Everything is done and it is ready to be displayed as a center piece of any collection. It comes with authentication papers issued by the NTHK-NPO in 2001. About this swordsmith - Yamato no Kami Yoshimichi. He is the second generation Yoshimichi and is rated Jo Saku. Second generation Yamato no Kami Yoshimichi is a sought after swordsmith and is actually ranked higher than his father in the Toko Taikan. He is known as """"Himeji Yamato"""" Yoshimichi because he was retained by Lord Banshu, of Harima no Kuni, at Himeji Castel.
