The Kazak (also Kasak) carpets belong to the group of Caucasian carpets. Carpets have been made in the Caucasus since the end of the 18th century. The abstract geometric tribal patterns in primary colors are characteristic. Typically, the geometric and, more rarely, floral motifs are depicted in high-contrast, intense colors. In the 19th century, a significant portion of the carpets produced primarily in villages were exported to the West under Russian control. This antique Kazak is a collector's item. It is around 130 years old and that alone makes it a really special piece. Antique carpets, like this Kazak, are still very popular and are sold at top prices by renowned auction houses.
