Antique Keno Goose in mahogany, measures 23" tall x 13"
Antique Keno Goose in mahogany, measures 23" tall x 13" diameter base. Very good condition. Sells with Keno Ball Board and approximately 100 Keno Cards, some are marked "Royal Keno". Paper label says "Keno: The Sometime Golden Goose". Of all the games offered in Western boomtowns, Keno was one of the easiest to rig for cheating. The pivot-mounted device -the goose- was spun to mix numbered balls within. When the conductor of the game, or roller, pushed a lever, one ball dropped out. He shouted its number; if players had that number on the keno cards bought from the house they covered it with a button. A player won when a row of five numbers was full. But when fitted inside with a device dropping pre-arranged numbers for a house shill, the goose turned golden only for the Keno Parlor.
