Antique Meiji Era Dai Nippon Porcelain Creamer, Phonix, Japan 1880s

Antique Japanese porcelain creamer with traditional Phoenix design, late 19th century, Meiji Era (1868-1912). The maker's mark contains Dai Nippon [Great Japan] characters. It is generally accepted that marks that includes "Dai Nippon" in Japanese characters on the whole date to the Meiji (1868-1912) period, reflecting the greatly increased nationalism of that period.

In Japan, the phoenix is a symbol of the imperial household. It represents fire, the sun, justice, obedience, fidelity, and the southern star constellations. Phoenix also symbolizes rebirth, triumph, and strength.

The creamer is 2.1/4" [5.7cm] deep; c.3" [7.6cm] wide including handle, c.2.1/4" [5.7cm] across at the bottom, very good / fine condition.
