Title: Antique Naga Brass Ancestor Statue - Himalaya
Date/Period: Early 20th century
Origin: Konyak Naga, Nagaland, India, Himalaya
Dimension: 13 inches tall 1700 grams
Material: Brass, with wooden base
Additional Information: Sculpture in brass representing a standing Konyak warrior, fixed a wooden stand. The warrior wears the typical hair pin and small horns as ear decoration. In his right hand, he holds a dao (cleaver). The "dao" is both a tool and a weapon of war and is always present in the everyday life of the Naga. There is no difference between a dao used to chop wood and a dao that severed the enemy's head. This figurine was made to commemorate an important person or to show the status of the owner. It is in line with the Naga belief that a figurine can magically bring someone closer to the spirits and the dead
