Entertaining Pitcher/ Jug, ROYAL DOULTON w/ black transfer printed Folk pattern CAT on a mustard color glaze background. Cat & Owl Figural Design On Handle. Pitcher has a saying ‘MAY WE NEVER BREAK A JOKE TO CRACK A REPUTATION’ in old English calligraphy writing. This motto first used in Stirling Scotland in 1822. Underside hallmarked with Royal Doulton Stamp with Royal Crown and Standing Lion above Crown. Reads ‘ U.S. PATENT JUNE 5th 1906’. Has a repaired line crack on one side that ravels to base. 7.5 in. tall.
