Antique Rustic Bamboo Silk Weaving Looming Roods
Two antique hand-crafted loom reeds, or weaving combs, constructed of closely spaced bamboo or reed dents secured within narrow wood frames and reinforced with natural fiber cord bindings. Each displays a long rectangular form with projecting end posts and hand-inscribed characters or notations to the wood crosspieces. Such reeds form part of a traditional loom and are used to maintain the spacing of warp threads during weaving. The longer rod bears incised character marks at one end. Approximate measurement 42 x 4 x.5 inches and 29 x 4.5 x .5 inches.
Condition: Good overall antique condition with typical surface wear, patina, discoloration, and soiling consistent with age and use. Scattered breaks and losses to the individual reed teeth, with wear and fraying to the fiber bindings and localized wear to the wood framework.
