Antique Southeast Asian Buddhist Painted Wooden Panel
DESCRIPTION: Southeast Asian carved wood panel, possibly for an altar, featuring an image depicting a figure seated in the one-sided posture on a platform wearing a helmet resembling the yellow sne ring hat of Tibetan Buddhist Lamas and making the threatening gesture with his right hand in the direction of a chained tiger and other several creatures including human figures in the foreground. Image is framed by dragons and auspicious item motifs and placed below an upper panel embellished with a long ("Chinese dragon") design. Bar along top bears an inscription in Sanskrit.
