Title: Antique Vinaigrette Costume Cameo on Original Gross Grain Black Ribbon with End Fittings
Additional Information: A really fabulous antique piece of functional jewelry, this is an original vinaigrette on its original black gross grain ribbons. It gives the appearance of and certainly be used as a locket with pierced panels. The top is adorned with an old plastic silhouette cameo in white on black. Vinaigrettes were used many years ago to help the wearer to bear unseemly odors of the day. Depending on the area, noxious odors were often needed to be tolerated in the trials and tribulations of everyday life. Inside there are two panels of some early plastic which I suppose hold the particular potpourri used. The long gross grain black ribbons appear to be original with brass filigree end fittings. The gross grain ribbons are each seventeen inches long, for a total neck length of thirty-four inches! There is a vintage spring ring closure and I tried to pic some alternate wearing suggestions. The cameo and filigree vinaigrette locket are a 1 3/8” square and besides the open work filigree metalwork and cameo, there are glass half pearls bezel set on the top. There is a thumb nail catch to open the vinaigrette and it also closes securely. In excellent condition and such a unique antique piece of jewelry, this original vinaigrette and ribbons are very wearable. This piece displays well and can be a welcome addition to any wardrobe with the neutral black and antique gold metal finishes. A true piece of antique jewelry history, this necklace is also quite a conversation piece. No Reserve
