Lauscha, Germany is universally celebrated as the birthplace of handmade glass marbles, producing intricate, hand-gathered glass art from the mid-19th century until the early 20th century. A 1.5" (or larger) Latticinio Core Swirl marble is considered an oversized "exhibition class" or "giant shooter" size, making it a highly sought-after rarity for antique marble collectors. Traditional Lauscha latticinio marbles feature a central, delicate "lattice" or basket-weave cylinder made of fine, opaque glass threads (most commonly white), which is then wrapped in vibrant outer transparent or translucent color ribbons.
