[ translate ]

Ancient Mongolian carpet called Pao Tao depicting two deer. The deer, in Mongolian art, but also in Chinese, Korean and Japanese art, symbolises endurance, grace and longevity. Since ancient times it was believed that they carried the dead to the afterlife and were the steeds of the immortals. At the four corners of the central background are stylised clouds which, loaded with rain, pour abundant water onto the crops allowing the growth of food, medicinal herbs, magical fruits and alchemical minerals that promised longevity. The central scene is framed by a border with floral touches. In the two lower corners are two infinity knots and in the upper two open lotus flowers. Previous collection: Alfio Nicolosi.
