Printed Broadside Headlined "REPLY" Dated Feb. 10, 1847 "of the Inhabitants of Bridgewater, Massachusetts, United States of North America, to an Address to them from the residents of Bridgewater, Somersetshire, England; under date Sept. 10, 1846" affirming the Town's strong support for Great Britain's abolition of the Slave Trade, noting "We learn with Satisfaction that Bridgewater (England) presented the first petition to Parliament against the Slave Trade, and we rejoice that your petition ultimately succeeded;--that the Government of Great Britain, impelled by a high sense of duty, is, by her wisdom, energy, and untiring persistence, effected so much towards terminating the abominable and nefarious traffic of our fellow men. . ." The text further affirms that "We deeply lament that slavery exists within the borders of our Nation. We are well aware of its many and great evils, affecting the Slave and Master, and the States in which it exists, and that these evils in various ways reach us in the free States, as a part of the whole of the great Union. Many in the free States anxiously desire to have slavery brought to an end in every part of the Union. . ." Frame under glass measures:16.25" H x 9.25" W.
