Festival tournament with jousting, musicians and spectators in stands behindPen and brown ink over black chalk, brown wash, on laid paper affixed to support, 230 x 515 mm (9 x 20 1/4 in), numerous areas of loss, handling creases and old folds, sheet affixed onto old paper support with indistinct text verso (unframed)*** For a comparable drawing by Boys, see the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris, who hold the drawing for the finished painting Banquet of the Hohenems family (the so called 'Hohenemser Festtafel') [See RKD https://rkd.nl/en/explore/images/200581]. It would appear that this is the only one other drawing by Boys known. The present composition may have been a preliminary design for Paul Zehendter von Zehendtgrueb's 'Orden[t]liche Beschreibung mit was stattlichen Ceremonien und Zierlichheiten', published 1587.
