History of Maker: Not much is known for certain about Anton Harder, one of the first people issued patents for the 400-day clock. What is clear is that Harder was granted patents for a complete 400-day clock (as opposed to just the pendulum) in Austria-Hungary in 1880 and in the United States in 1882. In Germany, Harder is generally considered the inventor of the 400-day clock. He would go on to found Jahresuhrenfabrik with August Schatz and a group of business partners.
