Antonín Mánes (1784 - 1843) LANDSCAPE WITH A WATERFALL
1820s
Oil on canvas
35 x 29 cm (h x w)
Signed: Lower left "A Manes"
From the expert opinion of PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "Mánes was a pupil of Karel Postl and for eleven years he was brought up in his studio with the intentions of a classicist view of the ideal composed landscape in a descriptive concept. He preferred to capture real, but lyrically conceived nature and its details. Today, Antonín Mánes is regarded as the founder of the 19th century Czech landscape school." On the back there is a clipping from the auction catalog of the Zdeněk Jeřábek Gallery (1949) with a reproduction of the image and a note: cat. no. 95.
