Antonio Canal, called Canaletto follower (Maestro di Palazzo Corner Spinelli)

View of the Rialto Bridge

This anonymous painter derives his notname from a painting which is reputed to have hung in the Palazzo Corner Spinelli. The unknown master demonstrates clear lines, especially when depicting the architecture, while he uses figural staffage more sparingly than his model Canaletto. The work was probably created at the end of the 18th century or in the first decade of the nineteenth.
