The Master with Pierre Restany and Vittorio Sgarbi.
“The master Antonio Sciacca pays homage to the Milanese comic strip of 1960, with his works dedicated to Diabolik, on the occasion of the release of the new film by Manetti & Bros, in synergy with the main Italian art galleries, in a traveling tour in the main Italian cinema. ”
Let's start by saying that in 1960 the Nouveau Réalisme theorized by the famous critic Pierre Restany was born, in the 60s there was this movement which was not the continuation of pop art, but was the negation of pop art, because it celebrated industrial civilisation,
industrial seriality, while Nouveau Réalisme celebrated the waste of industrial civilization (the antithesis) .
The famous exponent of Nouveau Réalisme, the Calabrian Mimmo Rotella, who used posters by tearing them, creating this visual performance that becomes a work of art, all his works are defigurations of the poster. Like Christo Javacheff, artist of the same pictorial movement that wrapped the monuments. The comic was seen as a work of art in 1960 by the famous artist Roy Fox Lichtenstein, who magnified the comic in a paroxysmal manner, creating enlarged images of the comic. My works are born from the roots of Roy Fox Lichtenstein, and from Mimmo Rotella's Nouveau Réalisme, but instead of defiguring, I reassemble, juxtapose, put the images of the comic back together, giving them a new form and a new meaning, a sort of three-dimensional collage with graphic interventions.
